Car manufactures push for extending tax credits—what’s not to like—free money is always welcome.

Tesla doesn’t need the tax credits— They passed the 200,000 milepost years ago and have a six months to a year waiting list for an EV.
If Tesla doesn’t need it then GM, Ford, Chrysler and Toyota (why give a foreign company a tax credit) don’t need it.
Only the rich can afford an EV which costs 20% more than a gas powered car.
What government can do is encourage installation of gobs of EV charging stations.

With a range of 250 miles or so you need to charge your EV often on a road trip and charger stations are few and far between in most rural areas.
