“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
— Matthew 6:27 (NIV)
Dear Saddleback Family,
Take a second to read today’s verse. Have you ever paused and wondered why you worry? As a follower of Jesus, there’s no reason to!
1. Worry is unreasonable: Worrying about something you can’t change doesn’t work.
2. Worry is unnatural: Humans are the only thing in God’s creation who worry.
3. Worry is unhelpful: Worry doesn’t change anything except you.
4. Worry is unnecessary: If you trust God, you don’t need to worry!
Worry is really a control issue. It’s trying to control what we can’t control: We can’t control the economy, we can’t control the spread of this virus, and we can’t control the future. Worry never solves anything! It’s stewing without doing.
So let me give you something to do instead – choose WORSHIP over worry. The only difference between worry and worship is what you put your focus on. Are you focusing your attention on what you can’t control, or are you putting your attention on WHO is in control?
Saddleback’s Pastor Rick Warren’s daily message is worthy of passing on to you. We have a lot to be concerned about yet we have been blessed by our faith.
Tally Ho!
