BENJAMIN BROWN AND THE GREAT STEAMBOAT RACE

In the summer of 1870, two steamboats, the Natchez and the Robert E. Lee, raced up the Mississippi River from New Orleans, Louisiana, to Saint Louis, Missouri. This story follows that race through the eyes of Benjamin Brown, a fictional twelve-year-old passenger aboard the Natchez.

But will the race be a fair one? While observing the actions of the two captains, young Benjamin has a chance to learn the difference between winning and showing integrity.

This book includes a script for a Readers Theater to be performed by students.
