“…whose singular praise it is to have done the best things in the worst times, and hoped them (the “best things”) in the most catastrophic. ‘The righteous shall be had in everlasting remembrance.'” Sir Robert Shirley, Baronet, 1653
Evil forces are taking hold of our culture and steering our nation toward a perilous cliff! The concepts of ‘family,’ ‘gender,’ ‘normalcy’ are all under siege like never before. All the things that used to hold life together: truth, integrity, moral values and faith in God, are eroding at an alarming pace.
Right in the midst of all the bleakness and alarm, God has called us to do something good! God has called us to “do the best things in the worst of times. He’s called us to build His Church!
Here’s what it will take to “do the best in the worst of times.”
- ) We must look at this task as a most sacred calling; we must handle it with holy, reverent hands.
- ) We must be fully committed to Christ’s Great Commission, to the leading of God’s mighty spirit and we must absolutely refuse to be distracted by anything else.
- We must be ready to swim against the tide of the evil forces of our day and teach our kids to do the same.
- ) We must be vigilant at all times! There are forces at work in our generation that are not of human origin! They try to silence and even discredit the Christian and his church. There are ‘wolves’ that creep in, and spare not the flock,’ as Paul wisely warned his elders once. Acts 20:28-29
- ) We must be seeking God’s will for our lives and for our church. Not my will or your will but God’s will
- ) And, of course, we must be perfectly one in all that we do; loving one another, bearing with one another, esteeming the other as better than ourselves.
Christians who commit themselves to these things will be doing the best, yes, even in the worst of times!
